About the Book

 This is a bedtime story picture book for children ages 0 to 5 years old.  Each page contains 2 to 6 words.

The essence of fewer words per page in children’s picture book.  One major rule of a picture book is to amuse children with what they can see in a book.  This is also an important tool to help them start to read.  But not all picture books with pages that last long enough for a toddler to stand and listen to her/his reader. Too many words in a page may bore them (based on my experience with my daughter) so they simply run away before you even finish reading it, and a reader can be less patient to read along.

Read it again!  Oh, yes, these little people do think sometimes mom or dad is a machine.  But then we have to when time favors.  Reading our child’s favorite book over and over and pointing out words as we read also invites them to read like us.  As we read the book a number of times to them, they begin to get familiarized with the word, and understand why such word is read this way.

‘Over and Under’ for early readers.  The font size of this book is 45 pt, using Quicksand font family.  Quicksand, unlike any other font styles has simple stroke, which help early readers avoid confusion of what a letter is supposed to be.   For example, font Times New Roman has this for a letter g , which we normally write like this g .  The latter font style is also commonly used in children’s books and in public billboards.

The text written on each page corresponds to what the graphic shows to its readers.  For example, it helps a lot for a reader to understand more how the word butterfly or ant looks like after looking at how it looks like as an object.  Besides, it’s fun to read it this way.

If you read this book with phonics, your early reader’s reading skill is very likely to improve.

The graphics.  A hybrid of manual and digital scrapbook art was applied to this book.  Some fabrics were cut into trees and accessorized with buttons, then combined with digital drawings of nature.  Some patterns used for the rest of the objects in this book were digitally created, and shapes were digitally cut to create natural landscapes and objects.
