U.S is a developed country, yet unbelievably, it has more than half a million of homeless children under the age of 6 (National Center on Family Homelessness, updated June 2011).  Surprisingly, among industrialized nations, U.S has the largest number of homeless people. There are homeless families with children that are not counted in the consensus.  These are those who live together – a household of 2 or more families living together. Either way, homelessness brings the feeling of insecurity, anxiety, and hunger.  The stress that it brought significantly affects cognitive and emotional development in children.  Learning disabilities are twice higher in rate among homeless children than the non-homeless.

Homelessness results from the combined effects of extreme poverty, lack of affordable housing, decreasing government supports, the challenge of raising children alone, domestic violence, and fractured social supports (Facts on Trauma and Homeless Children, Bassuk & Batia 2005).

BLYRO author invites you to join her and her family in bringing a delight to homeless children across the U.S with her first children’s bedtime story picture book.  The books will be distributed across the U.S through agencies hosting homeless children and families with children age 0 to 5 years old.  Some books will be given directly to very low-income families either personally, or through some form of events with their presence.
